The violin is a versatile stringed instrument. Violins are the sopranos of the string instruments and the smallest. The violin produces high pitches and is often used as a solo instrument.
Violas are slightly larger than violins and are the altos of the string instruments. The violas providing a darker rich tone. The viola is a solo and harmony instrument.
Cellos are played while seated in a chair. The cello has a wide range, of beautiful tones and is the tenor voice of the string instruments. Cellos are used as solo instruments and provide harmonic support to the strings group.
The double bass is the largest low-pitched instrument in the string family. Basses create a deep, rich sound providing the harmonic and rhythmic foundation to performing group. The double bass is played standing up or sitting on a stool.
